Dear Robert,
We received a complaint from a neighbor about the presence of unregistered
vehicles, junk vehicles and vehicle accessories on your property at 27 Holyoke Street.
Upon investigation, I find that there are, in fact, at least 6 unregistered or junk
vehicles (two of which are covered), and motor vehicle accessories present on the
property.
The City of Northampton's Zoning Ordinances (sections 2, 5.2 and 8.9) limit the
number of unregistered vehicles allowed on residential property, define the difference
between unregistered and junk vehicles and describe the requirements for storing the
unregistered vehicles and motor vehicle accessories that are permitted. Only two
unregistered vehicles, and no junk vehicles are allowed per parcel of residential land in
the city without a Special Permit from the Zoning Board of Appeals. The allowed vehicles
and parts must be screened from the view of the public.
I will inspect your property again on Monday, October 9, 2006. If the violations
have not been corrected, I may issue a Notice of Violation. Fines of up to $100.00 per
day may be assessed.
Several towing companies from the city, including Cahillane Auto Body, Ernie's
Towing, Florence Towing and 1812 Paint and Body will remove vehicles at no cost to
homeowners.
I have enclosed a copy of the pertinent regulations. If you need more information,
you may contact me at the building department. I can also help with arrangements to
remove the vehicles. Our telephone number is 587-1240 and our office hours are
Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, except that we close at 12:00 noon on
Wednesday.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
