ARCHITECT’S FIELD REPORT No. 2

Present: Louis Hasbrouck, Local Inspector and Zoning Enforcement; Assistant Chief Duane Nichols, Northampton Fire Department;
Brian Zimmerman, MJ Moran; Joanne Jackson, Clinical & Support Options; George Dole, Margo Jones Architects.
Observations and Discussion:
1. Fire Extinguishers: Joanne Jackson noted that Mass Fire Technology is scheduled for Thursday, June 25th to
provide new / and or recharged fire extinguishers throughout the building.
2. Fire Alarm / Sprinkler Sign Off: Joanne Jackson discussed with Duane Nichols a site walkthrough
scheduled with DAS Alarm Systems, Assistant Chief Nichols, and Brian Zimmerman from MJ Moran, to do
a final inspection of the fire alarm system and the sprinkler system. Joanne will confirm the time with all
parties involved. Scheduled for noon or 1 pm on Thursday, June 25th.
3. Basement Review: Assistant Chief Duane Nichols reviewed the new backflow preventer installed at the
southeast wall of the basement with Brian Zimmerman.
4. Basement Review: Inspector Hasbrouck noted to keep an eye on the existing brick archways that have been
compromised by plumbing pipework. These are in stable condition and no changes are apparent from work
done a long time ago.
5. First Floor Review: Inspector Hasbrouck noted exposed piping by the rear entrance needs to be braced.
Joanne J. stated it is scheduled to be insulated and braced.
6. First Floor Review: Assistant Chief Nichols noted a sprinkler head that still needs to be changed out. Brian
Zimmerman to schedule to do so for Thursday the 25th. Brian noted the original sprinkler system was
installed in 1969, and was a high quality installation at that time.
7. Second Floor Review: Inspector Hasbrouck noted there were up to six rooms that could qualify as
bedrooms per current code. Joanne Jackson stated currently there are only four planned bedrooms, three at
the second floor and one at the first.
8. Attic Review: Inspector Hasbrouck questioned if the attic was to be a heated space. Joanne Jackson noted
that it will be heated, and additional insulation is scheduled to be installed as funds become available, and
after an energy audit is done.
9. Porch Review: Inspector Hasbrouck and Assistant Chief Nichols reviewed the porch, which has all
windows and doors removed. This will eliminate the need for sprinkler heads at the porch. Inspector
Hasbrouck noted that screened porches are also acceptable.
10. Certificate of Occupancy: Inspector Hasbrouck stated he would be able to issue a certificate of occupancy,
once the final sign offs have been done by Assistant Chief Nichols and a letter of substantial completion is
received from Margo Jones, Architects. This may be emailed with a hard copy to follow. Once the letter of
substantial completion is received, Inspector Hasbrouck can issue the Certificate of Occupancy to Joanne
Jackson on Thursday afternoon, the 25th.
