Under the Wetland Protection Act and the Northampton Wetlands Ordinance, this is not allowed, since the area is within the buffer zone to both a small streamand a state certified vernal pool. In order to avoid an Enforcement Order and wetland violation fines, all existing vegetation must remain in place, there can be no further disturbance on either side of the stream and the area must be allowed to re- vegetate naturally as it provides important habitat for a variety of species, including some rare salamanders. I have enclosed some information on the Jefferson Salamander, one of the species identified in the vernal pool adjacent to your property, as well as the vernal pool certification. Also, there is going to be a vernal pool informational meeting in Leeds some time in January that might be interesting to attend.
