Project Summary: Please provide a brief description of the project.
The project proposes installing vertical gardens on the south - facing wall at the base of the Round
House parking lot behind the Academy of Music and on the stairwell wall connecting the City Hall
parking lot to the foot of Crafts Avenue. These two commonly overlooked urban features could be
transformed easily into open space providing environmental, (passive) recreational, aesthetic, and
practical benefits to city residents and visitors alike. Direct benefits include creation of areas inviting
contemplation and exploration of nature; habitat for birds, small animals, and insects; absorbtion of
carbon dioxide and subsequent conversion to and release of oxygen; absorbtion of heat and noise.
Indirect benefits include an enhanced "downtown experience" effected by converting graffiti
"magnets" to living landscapes waiting to be recognized.
