RE: Proposed Damon Road Drainage Improvement Project, Section 106 Review
Dear Ms. Heacock:
At its meeting of November 21, 2011, the Northampton Historical Commission reviewed the
plans and project information for the Damon Road Drainage Improvement Project. The
Commission voted unanimously that the project as proposed is necessary to protect the historic
Norwottuck Rail Trail bridge and the parking facility for the trail, and should not impact
historic resources. The Commission noted that the narrative indicated that cooperation with the
Historical Commission and MassHistoric is planned, and looks forward to continued
communication regarding any historical implications of the project to the discontinued
roadway, or impacts to the former railroad bridge.
