13-099 (4) ''C NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION Construction of Garden Shed At 96 Coles Meadow Road, Northampton, MA Site: • The plot is approximately 2 wooded acres, with a small stream at the extreme inner (westerly) edge. The plot runs roughly from the east at the road toward the west. A single family dwelling with a driveway is placed in the front (eastern) half. • The proposed shed will be set 31' from the southern property line, 120 feet from the northern line, 265' from the eastern line at the road, and 310' from the western line. General description: • Dimensions: 8' (W) X 12' (L) X 10' (H), with a peaked roof. On the eastern end a greenhouse structure 4' X 8' X 8' high with a shed roof and sides above 3' of greenhouse fiberglass. • The outside finishing will match the dwelling, with red cornerboards, stained clapboards, and asphalt roof shingles. The green house end will have a dirt floor, clapboard knee wall, 3' high, greenhouse fiberglass from there up, and a door on the north facing side. • There will be one window on the north side and one window on the west side, and a door on the north facing side. The building department for the City of Northampton wants any person(s) who seek to use the home owner exemption, to act as their own construction supervisor, to be aware that by doing so you become responsible for compliance with state building codes and regulations. The inspection process requires that the building department be called to inspect work at various stages, which include foundation /footings (before backfill), sonotube holes (before pour), a rough building inspection (before work is concealed), insulation inspection (if required) and a final building inspection. The building department requires these inspections before the work is concealed, failure to secure these inspections can result in failure to obtain a certificate of occupancy until the work can be inspected. If the homeowner hires other trades to perform work (electrical, plumbing & gas) the homeowner will be responsible to make sure that the trades hired secure their proper permits in conjunction to the building permit issued, and that they get their required inspections.
