Dear Community Preservation Committee;
On September 6, 2011, The Academy of Music had submitted a grant request to the Community
Preservation Committee in the amount of $275,000. On December 15, 2011, the Community
Preservation Community (CPA) awarded us this grant in full. This award is contingent upon
receiving a grant fiorn the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund. The CPA grant, along with a
request to the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund (MCFF) in the amount of $206,935 will help
pay for a new roof over the stage; repair of the plaster, including the decorative plaster, and re-
painting in the theater; and replacement of the seats, some of which are from 1937 and others used
seats from the 1960's.
Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund is telling us that our grant is highly rated, however, for our
grant be more competitive, we must be "shovel ready ". In order to do this, we request that the
Community Preservation Committee release up to $25,000 now in order for us to proceed with field
inspections and design and engineering. We will need to indicate in the MCFF grant, due April 6,
2012 that we will be able to complete this work by June 2012. These funds would be deducted from
the original award.
