Sop t rvif: Q: Why is JN Phillips Auto Glass one of the first to offer
Windshield Recycling windshield recycling?
A: We believe too many damaged windshields end up in landfills, and
in response, have invested over two years of research and
g 1-877-288 €,45' c„ development to create the first large -scale windshield recycling

t , v ,, t , r , about 600 million pounds of material -- are replaced each year in the
;;rrh, t,, United States. Until now, most have ended up in landfills due to
4r, 0,1f' technical difficulties related to separating the glass and plastic that
v; ,tt n , r €,F make up today's windshields, and a lack of facilities capable of

,cuff =r, vv; =rt;e, Za 38)t■6sl, program is our way of reducing that number and the impact on the
environment.
Q: Is JN Phillips Auto Glass recycling all of the windshields it
replaces?
A: Yes. We are committed to responsibly recycling 100 percent of the
windshields we replace.
Q: What happens to my broken windshield after it is removed by
a JN Phillips Auto Glass technician?
A: Upon removal, windshields are collected at JN Phillips Auto Glass
locations across New England. The windshields are sent to a central
location and then bulk- shipped to JN Phillips' recycling partner for
processing. The windshields are then sent through a special
pulverization process to separate the glass from the plastic material,
called polyvinyl butyral (PVB).
Q: In what types of products does the recycled glass and plastic
get used?
A: Upon final processing, the PVB plastic can be used in various
industrial adhesive applications such as for carpet glue and as a
bonding agent for roofing. The processed glass material -- often
called "glass cullet” -- is less costly than raw materials and has
numerous applications, including fiberglass insulation and even
concrete blocks. Glass cullet also melts at a lower temperature than
virgin raw materials and thus uses less energy.
Q: How can I take part in the program?
A: Easy. If your windshield is damaged and needs to be replaced,
click or call 877 - AUTOGLASS to
speak with a JN Phillips representative. You may also call your
insurance agent or provider and let them know you want your
windshield replacement service provided by JN Phillips Auto Glass.

Approximately 15 million windshields are replaced in the United States each year. Currently, the vast majority of these replaced
windshields — the equivalent of about 600 million pounds of glass and plastic — end up in landfills. That's why JN Phillips created
GreenShield.
JN Phillips Auto Glass performs thousands of safe auto glass replacements every
year throughout New England. Instead of sending these broken windshields to a
landfill — where the majority end up today — the windshields that JN Phillips Auto
Glass technicians remove are collected for recycling. The broken windshields are
processed at a recycling plant and broken down into their basic components - glass
i r t and PVB plastic. The recycled materials are then used to create new products, such
as carpet glue, insulation and even concrete.

JN Phillips Auto Glass
Dear Nicky;
Thanks for speaking today. Please feet free to share this information with the
Town of Northampton authorities.
JN Phillips Auto Glass has been in business for 65 years. JNP operates 40 auto
glass replacement centers throughout New England, including one presently in
Northampton on Damon Road with a use approved by the Town.
In our daily operation we average 10 jobs per day. Of this job content, 75 % of
our service work is performed at the customer's home, office or place of
business. Therefore, with approx 8 of those 10 jobs being performed off -
site, we generally consider 7 parking spaces as adequate for our daily needs.
The composition includes two employee parking spots, three customer spots
and a couple more spots for our service vehicles to come in and go out on
dispatch. In addition, we will use the interior service bays for customer drop -
offs or customers waiting for their car's auto glass to be replaced.
Our business is seasonal, however the change in daily work -load parking
requirement isn't substantially different. Customer cars are not generally left
overnight. We perform same day service. Jobs are completed with an hour or
so.
This explanation is based on our experience. I hope that this is helpful.
Sincerely,
Phil Rosenfield, VP; Sales and Development
