Dog Park Benefits and Liabilities
Dog Park Benefits and Liabilities
By Laurel Allen
Laurel Allen wrote a doctorate dissertation comparing dog parks in New
Jersey. “All the parks installed their fencing in a rectilinear configuration. When it
comes to configuration, most often a linear shape is ideal (Petnet, 2007) (PDF
page 50).”
In discussing enclosures Allen states, “the large and small dogs must be
separated from each other and two enclosed areas should be provided. This is
not only a rule at all the parks, but it is recommended by all experts including
Cesar Millan (2006) and Paul Owens (1999) (PDF page 51).”
When it comes to plantings Allen says, “a park should be softened on the
outside with plantings and trees to break up the monotony of the fencing,
especially at the fence corners. Evergreen trees or larger specimen trees work
well as corner anchors (PDF page 52).”
